Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Can I install these myself?

If you’re familiar with basic wiring, then the Redilight system is relatively easy to install. You’ll need to be able to access the roof and roof cavity to complete installation.

What’s the difference between 3000K and 5000K lights?

3000K and 5000K refers to the color temperature of the light. With 3000K being more of a soft white with a warmer color range and 5000K being a more of a daylight with a whiter color range.

What impact will installation have on the integrity of my roof?

Redilight installation has a minimum impact on roof structure. The solar panel needs to be attached to the roof with only a few easily sealable screw penetrations. The wire needs to pass through a small hole that can be located under a roof shingle/tile and sealed.

Will the Redilight system work at night?

Yes, an optional Day/Night kit can be installed that switches from solar power to house power so the lights can be used at night. Without this it works only during
daylight times similar to a skylight.

Will the Redilight system work at night?

Redilight LEDs have a lifespan of over 50,000 hours

Do I need to hire an installer to install a Redilight?

We highly recommend you hire an installer from our network of dealers to ensure the highest quality installation. However, it is not required. A Redilight can be
installed by anyone who considers themselves handy.

What happens when the sun is not out or it is cloudy?

Redilights demonstrate color very well. The SMD LEDs installed in Redilights have a color rendering index of over 82 out of 100.

How well do these lights demonstrate color?

Since the Redlight system relies on a solar panel for energy, the light reacts to the sun’s intensity much like a skylight. As the sun rises, the light intensifies. As the sun sets, the intensity decreases. The light intensity will also be lower during cloudy conditions. The system will be off until enough light to power it is available unless a Day/Night Switch is added to supplement it from house power.

What is the warranty on Redilight products?

  • 7 year warranty on Redilight LED Light fittings.
  • 5 year warranty on Redilight SPECTRA Drivers.
  • 5 year warranty on all Redilight approved parts and accessories.
  • Solar Panels – 5 year limited warranty on materials and workmanship, 10-year limited warranty of 90% power output; 20-year limited warranty of 80% power output.

Can one remote control multiple lights?

Absolutely. The remote can be synced with any light driver in your system. Refer to our instructions on syncing remotes here.

Can Redilights be dimmed?

Yes, if an optional driver equipped with a remote is installed, the lights will be dimmable and able to be turned on and off.

Can I add Redilights to my system later on?

A lot of Redilight customers initially purchase a larger sized solar panel which will allow you to add to your system later. Once you have a larger panel, you simply purchase Redilight Skyfixture™ and install to your existing system.

I want to install 1 x 6 watt light but I can only order two, why?

The 6 watt Skyfixture™ can only be installed in lots of 2 or 4 lights. This is due to the light driver being set at 12 watts or 24 watts. You can’t install 1 or 3 lights as you will overdrive the lights and void the warranty.
